Fire investigators from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS and Bridger Teton National Forest have determined the Horsethief Canyon fire to be human caused. The investigation is ongoing.
Steve Weichman, Teton County and Prosecuting Attorney, was on scene with Fire Marshal Kathy Clay and the federal investigators on Sunday. Mr. Weichman has stated that his office will be working in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney's Office in regards to potential prosecution of the matter.
Presently, the Horsethief Canyon fire is reported to have burned 2638 acres and is approximately 10% contained. Fire crews are working to establish fire lines to contain the fire. Residents in the east Jackson area remain on alert for a possible evacuation should fire conditions deteriorate. Nixle alerts are being released every two hours.
