Jackson, Wy - July 18, 2012 - The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Campaign, a project of Teton County, and The Wort Hotel is pleased to announce the Jackson Hole RRR Bag! Designed by local artist John Frechette and made by Chico Bag, the Jackson Hole RRR Bag is an ultra cool and packable way to shop and tote without using disposable plastic bags. It is currently available for purchase in-room at The Wort Hotel, as well as at The Silver Dollar Mercantile and CocoLove. Each bag costs $9.95.
The goal of the Jackson Hole RRR Bag is to address tourism’s impact on Teton County’s waste stream and to educate visitors to the valley. Ultimately the bag is a vehicle for conveying our community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and asking tourists to act in kind.
Each Jackson Hole RRR Bag comes with an educational card featuring reasons to choose reusable instead of plastic bags:
• Over 12 million barrels of oil are required to produce the 100 billion plastic bags that the US consumes each year.
• Plastic bags break down into toxic bits that contaminate soil, waterways and animals upon digestion.
• One person can save over 22,000 plastic bags in his/her lifetime by using a reusable bag.
“Partnering with RRR presents a unique opportunity to reach out to our guests by allowing them to take a piece of Jackson Hole home that represents the spirit of our community,” said Emily Feuz, Marketing and Merchandising Manager at The Wort.
The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Campaign aims to reduce Jackson Hole’s consumption of resources and landfill-bound waste through creative and educational awareness-raising efforts. Its ultimate goal is to help shape a less wasteful, more sustainable community. What started as a set of quirky television spots in 2005 has evolved into a high-impact outreach campaign that incorporates television, radio, print and local movie theater screens. The result: since its inception, the RRR initiative has contributed to a change in our community’s diversion rate – from 21.2% to 34.8% (the national average is 33.4%).
