[ARCHIVED] Winter Service Update 12/16/2020

The Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department continues to work with local partners and the community to provide winter outdoor opportunities.  As of Wednesday December 16, 2020, both Owen Bircher and Fairgrounds ice rinks are in great shape. Staff was able to get out and pack Powderhorn over the last couple of days as well.  No firm date yet, but we are shooting for ice by Christmas for that location.  Check out our website at the following location for updates, hours of operations and reservation information including a calendar of reservations and open skate times:  You can also sign up for our ice rink updates on Twitter (@TCJPRrinks) which is linked to the website as well.

The new snow this week has been a welcome arrival, but it is still fairly thin out there.  The PistenBully was slated to go to Cache and Game Creek this morning, however, we encountered mechanical problems.  We do not have a definitive date on the repairs so the snowmobile and pull behind will be used for the next few days in all locations.  The Stilson and Emily’s Levee locations were done with the PistenBully yesterday so they should have a good base.  We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to get the groomer back up and running.  Please continue to check the website and/or Twitter feed (@TCJPRGrooming) for the most up to date information on conditions/groomer status:

Staff got approval this week from the Board of County Commissioners to keep the pathway along Highway 22, from Emily’s Pond entrance to Town city limits, clear for as long as possible into the winter.  This resulted from a collaboration with Teton County Community Pathways, support from our Elected Officials and Yellow Iron Excavation.  In addition, staff will clear the Indian Trails pathway from the north end of Tribal Trail Rd to Highway 22 as resources and time allows.

Thanks to everyone for doing your part to keep the community safe and your patience as we work on the groomer and let the snow keep piling up.
