Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department manages a sand based horseback riding arena next door to Owen Bircher park in Wilson. The arena has cow shoots for practicing roping, and several barrels for barrel racing practice. If you want the ability to work on directional changes with your horse or just want to get out and exercise them, then this arena is perfect for that.
Scheduling the Arenas
The arena can be scheduled by the hour for group or individual practices for a small fee. Several groups such as the local 4H club, the Horse Warriors, and No Name Ropers use the arena throughout the summer for their group activities. Please call Courtney at 307-732-5751 to reserve the arena.
The arena is generally open from mid May through the end of October for riding activities and drop in use. Lights are also available at the arena for evening riding.
In November, dasher boards are erected for winter hockey play. The dasher boards are up throughout the winter and finally melt out by the end of April or beginning of May.
