2008 Oct 20

October 22, 2008 - Joe on the Go.

This Wednesday make it a point to REFUSE to receive a fancy schmancy paper cup for your gourmet coffee from your favorite hot spot. Bring in your own travel mug and get that one filled instead (some coffee shops give you a discount for bringing in your own). Courtesy of the Wyoming Conference of Building Officials (go green buildings!), the Town of Jackson has a supply of stainless steel travel coffee mugs to help support this effort. Please feel free to stop by the Town Hall and pick up a mug if you are in need. AND if you're not keen on hot gourmet coffee, those stainless mugs are also excellent containers for hot chocolate or cold drinks too!

October 29, 2008 - Check Before U Print. Why print an entire document if you only need one page? Just make sure you click “Page” and fill in the blanks rather than “All”.

ECO-DRIVING TIP OF THE WEEK:

Drive Your Vehicle to Warm It Up. Today’s automobile does not need a warm-up period before driving it. Even on the coldest morning, running your engine for 30 seconds is all you need before your vehicle is ready to drive. This is enough time for the oil to circulate throughout the engine. Your vehicle will reach its optimum operating temperature much faster when you are driving, rather than idling. During the first few minutes of driving when an engine is cold, try to avoid sudden or severe acceleration. Also, you don’t need to step on the gas pedal before starting the engine.

Office Pack – Not sure what to recycle in your office pack? Here are a few tips….YES to glossy inserts sent with billing statements, NO to sticky notes (unless you tear off the sticky part and it’s not bright paper), YES to manila file folders, NO to golden envelopes (many of these have metal clasps), YES to window envelopes, NO to overnight letter envelopes. Did You Know…. if you tear dark colored paper (like colorful file folders) and they are white inside YES they are recyclable.
